Kay Burley called Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor a “war hero” whilst sitting next to a Jeffrey Epstein survivor on a Newsnight panel. On Monday (6 July), the BBC show focused on Pizza Express having reportedly launched an internal inquiry into whether the former prince visited its Woking restaurant after his claims in an interview with the programme. In the 2019 interview, the former Duke of York said he had been at the Surrey restaurant on 10 March 2001 – the day he was alleged to have slept with Virginia Giuffre, one of Jeffrey Epstein's victims. Mr Mountbatten-Windsor has vehemently denied all allegations of wrongdoing. During an appearance on the BBC show on Monday (6 July), campaigner Lisa Phillips encouraged any other survivors to get in touch with her. Ms Burley then added: “And we should accept that he was a war hero. We should just throw that in.” “He was”, she added as Victoria Derbyshire brought the segment to a close and thanked the panel. The BBC and Ms Burley have been contacted for comment.
