An inquiry into alleged corruption in South Africa was interrupted after a police chief accidentally got tissue stuck to his forehead. Julius Mkhwanazi served as deputy chief of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department until he was placed on suspension following recommendations of an internal audit investigation into allegations of misconduct in November 2025. Speaking at the Madlanga Commission on Tuesday (14 April), Mr Mkhwanazi attempted to wipe sweat off his forehead with a piece of tissue. Without noticing, some of the paper stuck to his head, prompting one of the chairs to pause the proceedings. The Madlanga Commission is a public inquiry into alleged corruption, political interference, and criminality within the South African criminal justice system.
